The Nokia E-series Phones
Nokia is a Finnish company that has been manufacturing and selling computer and Internet software and accessories since 1989 (though the history of the company goes back even further, to 1865!). This article will deal with the Nokia E- series of smartphones for businesses, all of which have advanced office features.
The Nokia E60 was announced in 2005 and updated at the end of 2009. It is optimized for the retrieval and viewing of data in corporations. It has a screen resolution of 352 x 416 pixels and a dedicated voice key, but it has neither a radio nor a camera.
The Nokia E61 (available since 2006) has the standard American keyboard layout and also features a Base Band 5 network locking system, which prevents handsets that Nokia has not approved of from being unlocked.
The Nokia E70 (released May 2006) has its keyboard divided by the screen. Its Bluetooth software provides up to six connections at a time, but only one can be used as a headset. For visually impaired users, speech synthesis is provided.
E50 (released May 8, 2006) enables its user to view (but not edit) such programs as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Wi-Fi and FM radio are not supported, but it does have video and voice recording and multimedia messaging.
E51 (released in 2007) comes both with and without integrated camera.
E61i (announced February 12, 2007) was created as a follow- up to the E61 model.
E65 (released February 14, 2007) has an S60 platform third edition device
E66 (released July 2008) is the immediate successor to the E65, with the addition of several new features, including FM radio and newer versions of A2DP Bluetooth and other software.
E71 (also released in July 2008) ranks among the most popular of Nokia's smartphones. It received at least four awards, including Wired Magazine's Best of Test for 2008, Reader's Choice, and Editor's Choice. The E71 has optimized mobile email, a camera with image capture of up to 3.2 megapixels, and Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email.
E63 (released late in 2008) is similar to the E71 but with no Infrared, GPS, or HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access), and with a camera of lower quality.
E52 (released between July and December of 2009), an update of the E51 model, comes with 60 megabytes of free user memory, a PDF reader, Remote Lock/Wipe Over-The-Air, and smart dialing. E55 (announved February 16, 2009) is completely identical, except for the keyboard layout.
E72 (released November 2009), the successor to the E71, has a magnetometer sensor, RDS (Radio Data System) support, and a digital compass.
There are many other models in the E series, some of which are no longer made. More advanced models will undoubtedly be designed in the future.
